Both A- and B-size paper have a ratio of 1:√2, which Asians find the most beautiful, called the “silver ratio”. This ratio has been favored as a beautiful shape since ancient times, and the ratio remains the same even if the paper is continuously cut in half. The silver ratio is also taken into consideration to prevent loss when cutting.
